The Nassar Family took the Listerine Oral Care Challenge! Yup, we sent the last 4 weeks brushing, flossing and rinsing to our little hearts contentment and loved every minute of it…err, ok so maybe that’s not entirely true…
Creating healthy habits is important, most of us can agree with that. What most people struggle with is oral health habits. Some of the information that I learned through this process…
Did you know?
-Nearly 75 percent of American adults suffer from various forms of periodontal (gum) disease* and don’t know it.
-Brushing your teeth alone misses the germs in 75 percent of your mouth.
-According to a survey conducted by the makers of LISTERINE® and REACH®, over one-third of Americans don’t eat their favorite foods or smile in photos because of dental problems like cavities, tooth pain and gingivitis.
-Even sadder, 15 percent don’t kiss their loved ones.
Those stats are sad, but true and so I have been trying my hardest to encourage my children to brush daily! A few times a day is best, but let’s be honest– it’s tough when they are younger. I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old who are way fickle when it comes to brushing, and flossing? UGH! It’s really tough… stressing the importance with the 6 year old has worked to some degree. He did however enjoy the mouth wash which was awesome since I’d never been able to get him to try it before! It works really neat in the fact that when you swoosh the rinse around your mouth, it doesn’t burn at all. That was also a BONUS feature that my husband loved.
My daughter who is 9 stated that she loved how clean and fresh her mouth felt in the morning after brushing and flossing and rinsing the night before! Yes, her mouth still felt clean even the morning after. Truth be told–that kid has some gnarly breath in the morning and it has helped tremendously that it’s not bad in the morning when I have to be in her face to wake her up!
The hubster and I thoroughly enjoyed the effects of the Listerine Total Care Zero rinse. It is an after brushing rinse to strengthen teeth, restore enamel and keep your mouth fresh AFTER your brushing is all done. My husband noted that even after drinking a cup of coffee he still could feel the effects of the rinse and his breath did not smell like coffee as it normally would after drinking a cup. WOW! I had to try that one too after he told me that- same here!
The most noteworthy thing of this whole experience for me personally was the fact that for the last 4 months I have been under treatment for Invisalign…and the trays being on my teeth nearly 24/7 cause this funky slime to form on my teeth. When I say funky, I mean sorta smelly. I found myself having to drink water often to rinse that feeling out of my mouth and to get the smell to subside. While brushing is a great option to keep my mouth clean and fresh during the day, it’s hard to do as often as I’d like to considering I am home with a toddler. So, I noticed that the funk isn’t nearly as evident or reoccurring since I have been using the Listerine Total Care Zero rinse! YAY!

I encourage my kids to have good oral care habits by having them pick out their own toothbrushes and toothpaste. That way they’re excited about brushing.
DDs are always happy to pick up their own brushes and flavored toothpastes. This is how I encourage them to engage in healthy oral care habits.

We (Santa and the Easter Bunny) always give fun toothbrushes, mouthwash and toothpaste to each child for Christmas and Easter. They love having their “own” oral care products and look forward to using them each day.
I encourage my child by brushing my teeth together with him to show him a good example
set a timer in the bathroom and make sure everyone brushes their teeth for at least 5 minutes!
Set up a routine at bedtime that includes brushing and rinsing. Also, buy products that the kids will like, to encourage them.
i give a treat of “flossing” if they brush! Thanks for a super giveaway!
I show pictures of how you can be a yuck mouth if you do not brush your teeth.
we let the kids pick out their favorite toothpaste/mouthwash. This encourages them to want to partake in oral care.
I make sure we all go to the dentist every 6 months. I also help my daughter brush every night and make sure to explain the important of oral hygiene!
Routine is very important for my kids. We make sure to brush every morning and every evening. If we forget-the kids are sure to let us know
play fun songs while brushing

let them choose their own toothbrushes and toothpastes…also be consistent in having them brush
their teeth no excuses allowed
I explain that by flossing and brushing daily that they won’t have to see the dentist outside of yearly visits and they have seen what I have been through when I had an abscess tooth
I say make it a fun routine!
Start young! I started brushing my kids teeth as soon as they got their first tooth, and we go to the dentist every 6 months. Making hygiene fit into our normal routines really can be simple!
I try to keep everyone’s favorite products on hand, certain flavors, etc. so they are interested in brushing and rinsing and taking care of their teeth.

leaving everything on the counter where it is hard t omiss!
I think talking to them about the problems of not brushing your teeth help.
Make it fun! That for me is what works best. I buy the kids toothbrushes, toothpaste and rinses that have their favorite characters.
let them choose there toot brush, brush teeth together as family. Give them a reward for no cavities at dentist and also remind them of certain other family members who have dentures
